Music Video from my Chosen Artist

As I have chosen to create a music video of 'Bloodstains' which is a part of one of the many EP's from the artist 'Passenger' I have decided to look as some of the official video's to understand if there are any themes which reflect into his lyrics and his songs, I have chosen 'Hearts on fire' which Is one of his newest songs from the new album 'Whispers'

From what my research tells me, the music videos from the artist always include him performing (lip syncing and/or playing the guitar) with the artist in elemental surroundings, for example in his most recent music videos, he is seen in woodland
areas and fields (Hearts on fire, and Scare away the dark)

The music video will show a narrative that reflects the lyrics, for example this music video of 'Hearts on fire' the narrative shows the artist walking around a wood finding items that reminded him of a loved one, to which he then stores in a time capsule, which he revisits many years later. The music videos narratives are also left to the audience interpretation, for example, my interpretation of this music video is that he does love her, but he missed his chance, so all the shots to the woman in the white dress walking in the wood, and the older version of the same person is walking around the wood trying to catch up to the girl to tell her, but because he missed his chance, she moved on, leaving the younger version of the artist to bury her memory (quite literally) because he couldn't have her, and the older version of the artist then returns to her memory because although he buried her memory, she is still very much alive in his memory.

The editing within this music video is slow paced and matches that of the tempo of the song. The shots used within  this music video revolve mostly around medium close up's, medium shots, close ups and also long shots which are mostly of the artist himself within live performance, and of the location, which links with the genre conventions of an indie pop artist and/or music video. This music video in particular is mostly about the artist and his performance rather than location, actors etc...

The music video however has been created to promote and entertain target audience members. The promotion used within this music video is the use of naming the song with it's artwork which can be found on download websites, such as 'ITunes' which promotes to audience members to go and buy the single 'Hearts on fire'. The entertainment within this music video is that of the narrative, which is all based on love and how, par truth and a common interest in each other, timing plays a big part in time, and if the timing is not right, then the relationship may not happen, or if it did, it is most likely to fail. The music video is entrainment because it allows audience members to link their own real life situations

with that of the characters within the narrative, for example some audiences may relate to the actor playing the older artist, and how he hasn't stopped loving her, which is represented by the use of seeing her with a fresh bunch of lavender, and then several years later, seeing the time capsule opened to find, in the older man's hands, the same lavender that she once had, which also shows connotations of how, although everything will age and expire, it doesn't mean that the memoires/ feelings expire with it.

By doing this it has allowed me to have an understanding of the artist's music videos and their genre's generic conventions, which will aid me when creating my own as it will allow me to show my understanding of the key conventions.
From looking at this music video by my artist, I have noticed certain things that the artist is 'branded' with, for example the element of live performance is always found within his music videos, as well as a construted narrative, which audience members can clearly understand and follow. Therefore having seen this music video, and also 'Scare away the dark' as another example, I have decided to make sure my own music video shows a constructed narrative, as well as live performance from the actor, in order to keep my music video close to the brand and also the generic key conventions of an 'Indie pop' music video genre.
